How it is calculated

Every statement Meantly reads gets a fear score from 0 to 10: half from fear language (threats, dread, absolutes per 100 words), 30% from how the statement is likely to leave its audience, 20% from risk-off market signals weighted by impact. Scores are averaged per speaker per day, then blended by role: heads of state 50%, ministers and central bankers 30%, legislators, candidates and business leaders 20% (a role needs three speakers that day to count). Days are smoothed with a two-day half-life and the result is ranked against the trailing 90 days to give the 0–100 reading.

It measures style, never truth. Identical rules apply to every speaker, party and country. Sport is excluded. While the archive is under 60 days old the index is marked beta.
